GOLD PLATED VS. GOLD VERMEIL

Although not apparent to the unaided eye, there is a difference between Gold Plated and Gold Vermeil jewelry. From the base material chosen to the thickness of the gold layer (measured in microns), we're here to explain.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLD PLATED AND GOLD VERMEIL?

Both Gold Plated Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil jewelry are made using a plating technique. This means a layer of gold (yes, real gold and in our case 18 carats) is applied over a base material. For Gold Plated Sterling Silver jewelry, the base material can basically be anything, over which a thin layer of gold is then applied. In this way, affordable gold jewelry can be made since the base material is a lot cheaper than Solid Gold. Like standard Gold Plated Sterling Silver jewelry, Gold Vermeil jewelry consists of a base material over which a layer of gold is applied. However, to qualify as Gold Vermeil, the base material must always be Sterling Silver and the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns. Like our Gold Plated Sterling Silver jewelry, our Gold Vermeil jewelry always consists of recycled Sterling Silver with a layer of 18 karat gold on top. The thickness of this gold layer varies from 0.25 to 1 micron for Gold Plated and at least 2.5 microns for Gold Vermeil jewelry.

Gold Vermeil meaning

Gold vermeil is one of the newest materials in Eline Rosina's collection. Vermeil gold jewelry lasts longer than gold plated jewelry. Gold Vermeil means that the base of the material is Sterling Silver with a thick gold layer of at least 2.5 microns. All our gold vermeil jewelry has a thick 18 carat gold layer of 2.5 microns over a base of recycled Sterling Silver with a protective E-coating over it for an even longer finish.

Our Vermeil Gold collection consists of hoops, huggies, earrings, studs, bracelets and bangles. You can enjoy our Gold Vermeil Willow Hoops, Allure hoops or Bella Hoops for an extra long time. The Gold Vermeil finish gives the truly luxurious look you crave.

Gold Vermeil jewelry has several advantages. For example, Vermeil gold is cheaper than real gold jewelry. Also, Gold Vermeil jewelry is easy to maintain. Moreover, this stylish jewelry also lasts longer than gold-plated jewelry. So plenty of reasons to switch to Gold vermeil.

We do not recommend showering, swimming or playing sports with our Gold Vermeil jewelry. Despite the fact that the gold vermeil jewelry lasts a long time, the acidity of for example soap can affect the jewelry.
