Frequently asked questions about ear piercings
What is the most painful ear piercing?
Piercings through thicker cartilage, such as the conch and daith, are often experienced as more painful than a helix or tragus. However, the pain is brief and easy to bear for most people. An experienced piercer will make the process as comfortable as possible.
How long does an ear piercing take to heal?
Lobe piercings usually heal within 6–8 weeks. Cartilage piercings such as the helix, tragus and conch take longer: expect 3–6 months, sometimes up to a year for full healing.
What should you avoid after an ear piercing?

- Don't twist your piercing
- Avoid swimming pools and saunas for the first few weeks
- Don't sleep on the side of your new piercing
- Don't change your jewellery too soon – wait until the piercing has fully healed
When can I change my ear piercing?
Only change your ear piercing once it has fully healed. For lobe piercings this is after at least 6 weeks, for cartilage piercings after at least 3 months. If in doubt, ask your piercer.
Can I shower with my ear piercing?
Yes, our 14K gold ear piercings are swim-proof and you can simply wear them in the shower. Do avoid direct contact with shampoo or soap on a fresh piercing.
How can I clean my piercings?
To keep your 14k piercings shining, it's important to give them a little love every now and then. You can clean your gold jewellery by placing it in a small bowl of sparkling water with a few drops of washing-up liquid. This loosens dirt within a few minutes. Rinse your piercing briefly under the tap and gently pat it dry. And just like that, your piercing shines like new again!
What are Eline Rosina piercings made of?
At Eline Rosina we sell 14k solid gold piercings. To reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible, we also work with recycled 14k solid gold. Where this isn't (yet) possible, we use gold that is responsibly mined and certified according to the standards of organisations such as the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Because we work with real solid gold, our piercings won't oxidise or tarnish, so you can wear them anywhere, anytime.
