More about Tragus piercings

What is a tragus piercing?

A tragus piercing is a type of ear piercing placed through the small, triangular piece of cartilage at the front of your outer ear, right next to your ear canal. The name 'tragus' comes from the Greek word for 'goat', referring to the little hairs some people have on this part of the ear.

This piercing has become popular because of its unique placement: subtle enough for everyday wear, yet striking enough to show off your personal style. A tragus piercing fits perfectly into any ear stack and combines beautifully with helix, conch and daith piercings.

Why choose a gold tragus piercing?

A 14 karat gold tragus piercing offers advantages you won't find with cheaper materials:

Hypoallergenic & skin-friendly Real gold doesn't cause allergic reactions, making it ideal for the sensitive skin around your tragus. Our piercings contain no nickel and are suitable for long-term wear.

No discolouration or oxidation: Unlike plated jewellery or surgical steel, 14 karat gold keeps its colour and shine – even after years of daily wear, showering and swimming.

Comfort thanks to a flat back design: All our tragus jewellery has a flat back, so it sits comfortably against your skin. No sharp edges bothering you while you sleep or talk on the phone.

Sustainable & responsible: We only use recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds. Luxury with a clear conscience.

Frequently asked questions about tragus piercings

How painful is a tragus piercing?

For most people, the pain of a tragus piercing isn't too bad. On a scale of 1 to 10, people rate it a 4 to 6 on average. You feel a short, sharp pinch as the needle goes through the cartilage, followed by a feeling of pressure. The tragus has fewer nerves than your earlobe, for example, so the pain is often experienced as bearable. Afterwards your ear may be tender and swollen for a few days – this is normal.

How long does a tragus piercing take to heal?

A tragus piercing takes an average of 6 to 9 months to heal. Cartilage heals more slowly than soft tissue because it has a smaller blood supply. During this period it's important to:

  • Clean your piercing daily with saline solution

  • Not touch or twist your piercing

  • Keep your ear dry after showering

  • Sleep on the other side

Once fully healed, you can safely change your tragus jewellery and swimming is no longer a problem.

Which jewellery is suitable for a tragus piercing?

Flat back labret studs are the most suitable for a tragus piercing, both during healing and afterwards. The flat back prevents irritation and doesn't press against your ear canal. At Eline Rosina we offer two lengths:

  • 6.5mm (standard) – ideal for a healed tragus piercing

  • 8mm – suitable during the healing phase or for a thicker tragus

Once fully healed, you can also choose small hoops or click rings for a different look.

Can I wear earbuds and a headset with a tragus piercing?

During the healing phase we recommend avoiding in-ear earbuds as much as possible, as they can put pressure on your fresh piercing. Over-ear headphones are a better alternative. Once fully healed, you can use earbuds again as normal – a small, flat piece of tragus jewellery usually won't get in the way.

What is a tragus piercing good for?

Besides its aesthetic value, some people associate a tragus piercing with acupuncture. The tragus point is said to be connected to certain energy channels in the body. Although there's no scientific evidence for this, some wearers experience relief from headaches or migraines. Most people, however, simply choose a tragus piercing as a stylish accessory.
